Monet originally created this series of works looking at his water garden in Giverny, as he was nearing old age. This piece was technically challenging because as Monet fell to dementia, he started omitting the horizon. My strategy for creating this was to divide the original work into a grid to keep everything proportional. I spent roughly 14 hours on this piece, starting with the background with oil pastels to then create the lily pads with acrylic paint.
